An academic conference devoted to 250-year anniversary of the oldest museum of fine arts in Russia


 
On 24 and 25 November 2008 the Museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts will held an academic conference devoted to 250-year anniversary of the oldest museum of fine arts in Russia.

Among the participants are the experts from museums and higher schools of St. Petersburg, Kazan, Kirov, and Moscow. Researchers from the Hermitage, the Museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, the Russian Museum, the Research Institute of Theory and History of Art of the Russian Academy of Science, the State Museum of the History of Religion, the State Museum of Fine Arts of Tatarstan Republic, Vyatsky State University and St. Petersburg Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture will consider not only questions related to the history and the collection of the Museum of the Russian Academy of Science itself, but also a wider range of topics of the development of Russian art and of the role and the influence of the Academy of Fine Arts on the Russian culture.
 
There will be reports devoted to the history of the collection of the drawing class of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts; the first Russian lithographs in the collection of the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts; the curator of the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts E.O. Viesel (1866-1943); the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts and the exploration of the heritage of Belarusian and Lithuanian ecclesiastical antiquities; the history of creation of the sculptural decoration of Anichkov Bridge by P.K. Klodt; the architects of Vyatka Province - the graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts; participation of the architects Yu. Felton and I. Fok in designing the Summer Garden railing; the history of creating the collection of antiques of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in the first third of the 19th century. Besides the above mentioned, the topics of genre scenes in the graduate works of the faculty of sculpture of Repin Institute in 1950-1980 and the tendencies of modern lithography in the graduate works from the collection of the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts will be touched upon.

To participate in the conference the researchers are invited whose reports will be devoted to the history of the collection of the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts (1758-2008), the history of the Academy of Fine Arts; the work of European and Russian artists whose works are (or were) in the museum collection; attributions.

Please, send your reports in Word, point size 12, text volume – up to 6 pages (1800 characters on a page) before the end of February 2008.
The reports may be accompanied by the demonstration of visual materials only on electronic carriers (CD, DVD).
