Vyacheslav Berechinsky. An exhibition of paintings by the artist at the Isaak Brodsky Memorial museum

From the 12th of August, 2015, the memorial museum of Isaak Brodsky is hosting the exhibition featuring works, mainly portraits created in 2014-2015, by Vyacheslav Berechinsky. Vyacheslav Berechinsky is a renowned artist, musician, curator and art restorer. The origin of his oeuvre goes back to 1980s, when art used to emerge through discussions and meetings in flats (so-called “kvartirnik”, an artistic party in a flat). These meetings are now symbols of the non-official art life of that period when conceptual art finally penetrated in ordinary living. In other words, this art was rebellious in its very nature. The artist’s biography, as any other biography of a creative non-conformist artist during the whole 20th century, is full of different cultural, social and political collisions. Vyacheslav Berechinsky was born in 1970 in Leningrad. Since the mid 1980s he has been experimenting in visual culture as well as in music. In 1987-1989 he took active part in the project of Dmitry Goroshevsky “A Bird Штраус” (this is a language play: Штраус is second name of a composer Richard Georg Strauss; it also sounds as Страус - the Ostrich birds (Страус). Since the mid 1990s Vyacheslav Berechinsky had worked mainly in the field of electronic music: in 2000 the album “Chekhov” was released in Japan, Europe and the USA. Since 1993 the artist has been working for the Art Academy Research Museum. Being a curator, the artist organized a number of significant exhibitions among which, for example, there is “ASSA: the last generation of the Leningrad’s avant-garde” (2013). The artist participates in many exhibitions in Russia and abroad; his works can be found in private collections in Russia, Europe and the USA. The exhibition will run until the 30th of August, 2015, in the halls of the Memorial museum of Isaak Brodsky.
