Contemporary St. Petersburg Art: Paintings.
The exhibition is a part of the project run by the Northwestern branch of the State center for Contemporary Art and featuring St. Petersburg contemporary art work. The exhibition displays art pieces by the contemporary artists, and alumni and teachers of the St. Petersburg Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
A rather old-fashioned genre of a canvas-format oil painting made its way back in today’s artistic experience; it again plays a great role and keeps its position among other genres, styles and techniques. Thus, the objective of the project is to show the importance of the oil painting art in the world we live in and to trace how a painting became a new (or re-invented) media.
More than thirty works will be displayed by twenty St. Petersburg artists of different generations. Among them there are: Maria Alekseeva, Anna and Aleksey Gan, Ilya Gaponov, Ivan Govorkov, Valery Grikovsky, Elena Gubanova, Aleksandr Dashevsky, Aleksey Kostroma, Vladislav Kulkov, Vladimir Kustov, Grigory Mayofis, Syomen Motolyanets, Igor Pestov, Vitaly Pushnitsky, Kerim Ragimov, Andrey Rudiev, Olga Tobreluts, Leonid Tshe, and Petr Shvetsov.
The grand opening will take place on the 27th of November, 2015, at 17.00 at the halls of the St. Petersburg Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. The exhibition will run until the 17th of January, 2016.
