‘Summer art-practice’ is the annual exhibition of the works made by the students of the Saint-Petersburg Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin during the summer time. The exhibition is taking place in the halls of the Art Academy Museum. The highlights are works by the students of the Ilya Repin Institute as well as works by the students of the Ioganson Art Lyceum.
Summer art practice is an important part of the education system in the Institute. It allows its students to apply their professional skills; it trains them to learn directly from nature how the perception of colours and lightning differs as the day pass by and as the weather changes. These exhibited paintings, drawings, sketches show us one’s first reflections about nature. Thus there are so many genres and styles displayed. It is remarkable that we are able to trace first steps of young artists, their forming of views on life and creativity.
Pushkinskie hills, Crimea, Lake Onega have always been traditional places for the summer art practice. The practice of copying old masters is a very important part of the education system, especially for the students of Painting and Art Restoration departments. As usual it takes place in the Russian Museum and the State Hermitage Museum. Students of the Theater Decoration department have their summer practice at the various theater studios where they acquire first professional experience. Studios of ceramics, mosaic and plaster casts become workshops for the students during the summer time. Students of the Architecture department make sketchers, watercolors, and topographical surveys of the buildings located in the historical centers in different cities. The exhibition displays more than 300 works by young artists.
The exhibition is open until the 28th of February, 2016
