The exhibition “Taras and Vasilij – models of the artist Carl Brullov”

From 22nd of December the exhibition “Taras and Vasilij – models of the artist Carl Brullov” wiill be on display in the Blue Hall of the Art Academy Museum. The highlights of this exhibition are 30 studies made by the students of the Imperial Art Academy during the second half of the XIX century. Most of the works were awarded with silver medals. The sketches also show how famous Russian artists-teachers, for example the brothers Makovsky, Shustov, Korzuhin, Savitsky and others created the composition sketches with the models. For the Art Academy students drawing and painting models played an important role. As for the models, for some of them posing became a profession. During the times of the “Great Carl” (Carl Brullov) there were two models working in the Art Academy – Taras and Vasili. They were Carl Brullov's favorite models.  Thanks to the research of the Art Academy's Museum lots of the original titles of these sketches were found and the names of the models (Zakhar, Taras, Vasilij and others) could be specified.
