The Fund of Ismail Akhmetov is presenting an exhibition “Retrospective. 1965-2014” featuring works by the Italian artists Marco Bravura, Marco De Luca and Verdiano Marzi. The exhibition is considered to be one of the most prominent projects that shed light on the contemporary art of mosaics and will show more than a hundred mosaic art pieces. Marco Bravura, Marco De Luca and Verdiano Marzi, all living now in different parts of the world, once graduated from the same Institute of mosaic art in the name of Gino Severini in Ravenna – the cradle of mosaic art. As students the artists not only learnt different skills and techniques of mosaic art but started to experiment with it. In the 1980s for a contemporary artist to work in such an applied, artisan technique of mosaic was thought very uncommon, almost revolutionary.
The exhibition will display unique works: from monumental mosaics for public venues to fine and elaborate small mosaic art pieces.
The exhibition will take place in the Raphael hall of the Art Academy’s museum and will be open until the 13th of October, 2014
