| On the 6th of April at 3pm, there will be an exhibition opening in the Russian Art Academy Museum in celebration of the works by teachers from the Iliya Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
The tradition of having such exhibitions began in 1897 when the first public exhibition was organized in the halls of the ArtAcademy. Among well known artist’s works there artwork by young and non-academic painters were also exhibited. The initiator of this first exhibition was the famous Russian artist Arhip Ivanovich Kuindji.
In 1918 the tradition was interrupted. However, in 1996 it was revived thanks to the teachers of the painting department at the I. Repin Institute.
Nowadays these exhibitions are oriented slightly differently. The list of the works includes only those made by teachers of the Institute during the most recent one-year period. Lots of paintings, sculptures and graphic art will be shown for the first time.
The exhibition of work by the Repin Institute’s painters is always a bright event in the artistic life of Saint-Petersburg. It allows spectators to see and compare the achievements of artists of all ages whose art skills were formed according to both national tradition and academic schooling. Nevertheless each of the participants has an original view of the world and uses an individual artistic language.
This year in the exhibition halls, guests will find paintings, sculptures and graphic art that’s made using different techniques and genres.
The exposition not only allows one to analyze the current situation in Russian academic art in general, but also to get acquainted with the accomplishments of each artist and the level of their professional skill.
The exhibition is open till 24th of April 2011.
