Katherine hall

Relatively small, covered by a cupola Katherine hall closes the ceremonial enfilade from the west. The hall appeared as a result of restructuring of several rooms located on two floors according to the design of К.А. Ton in 1830s. In 1830s a plaster statue of Katherine II of S.I. Galberg was mounted in this hall which gave the name to the room. In 1866 due to the 100-year anniversary of adopting the first Charter it was decided to put a marble replica of this Galberg’s sculpture made by V.P. Brodsky.  This hall was the place of sittings of the Board of Professors of the Emperor Academy of Arts.
A special ceremonial look is attributed to the hall by the coffer cupola decorated with golden rosaces. In niches there have been put casts of prominent antique sculptures from Vatican, Louvre and the Museum of Olympia: Apollo of Belvedere, Diana of Versailles, Aphrodite of Milos and Hermes with an infant Dionis.
Presently this hall is one of the exhibition halls of the Scientific-Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts.
